Overall Job Purpose
A member of a Business Banking Team developing and maintaining relationships with portfolio of business banking customers and connected Personal customers.
To independently manage a portfolio of insurance business by retaining and growing the business and accepting and underwriting new business with a focus on profitable management thereof.
Assist one or more Managers/Directors’ with Insurance product knowledge, sales research, customer relationship development, research into solutions to meet customer’s insurance needs using market and industry information and risk management for the portfolio.
Relationship Manager Job Key Accountabilities in Kenya
Accountability: Business Development and Business Performance (60%)
Source, secure and maintain business links in the insurance market, both within the Barclays group and externally.
Responsible for sales/new business development and overall client service in a dynamic and highly competitive market place.
Identify new opportunities in the environment by creating new broker/advisor relationships and respond by making presentations and pitching products and ideas to potential clients.
Provide visitation, underwriting and technical support services to new and existing customers and grow own customer portfolio by attracting new clients through unique product solutions and individual underwriting processes
Responsible for delivering a solution based approach to the client and achieves set targets in respect of new business and return on capital employed.
Obtain membership of relevant industry bodies to ensure networks, industry knowledge and trends are current and sought after.
Manage and resolve client complaints according to Barclays, values and credit and business risk.
Design, communicate and implement unique action plans to improve service following client feedback in respect of complaints/compliments received. The action plans will be within legislated and mandated underwriting rules and will be personally implemented in 1 on 1 meetings with corporate and commercial brokers
Provide client education and training on Insurance products and services in cases where this will add value to the customer’s business resources
Achieve set targets of Gross Premium Income by quoting on the pre-designed templates for the business unit’s business to and external intermediaries’ requests and accepting profitable new policies. Utilise the rating guidelines and acceptance criteria, designed and introduced by Management to do the risk selection and rating there-off.
Monitor leads and co-ordinate information for the Relationship Manager on overall portfolio.
Carry out onsite inspection of prospective insured client to evaluate risk to determine acceptance criteria, risk improvements requirements, pricing and total sum insured.
Accountability: Managing relationships (30%)
Effectively manage relationships with business partners (e.g. Barclays Life Assurance Kenya and Barclays Insurance Services and External Intermediaries) and with internalstructures within Barclays Bank Kenya Business Units by supporting and attending to reasonable needs of Business Partners. By acquiring this and adhering to Service Level
Agreements with regards to turn around time on quotations, this will build trust and reliability.
Foster relationships within all these areas so as to create an environment conducive to good business
Know intermediary on a personal and business level to enable business growth through an involvement in their private and business lives.
Facilitate the appropriate inter-segment and product integration as well as leverage brand and sponsorship initiatives in support of BU’s business, marketing and salesobjectives through active engagement of Broker Consultants who represent other Business Units.
Manage customer service delivery by the BUSINESS team in the portfolio and ensure that service level agreements and turnaround times are met and exceeded.
Pro- actively attends to and ensures that escalated service and issues are resolved.
Accountability: Risk, Governance and Control Weighting (10%)
Ensure compliance, by doing Insurance product courses, IRA accreditation and other development programmes in all the products in the specified business unit in order tosell these products to the internal and external intermediaries.
Ensure own personal compliance to IRA requirements by attending all relevant training to obtain credits
Adhere to all Barclays Group policies and procedures on a daily basis, such as, the conducts guide, car policies, IT policies, dress code, security compliance (Fraud, MLSanctions) etc.
Qualifications for Relationship Manager Jobs in Kenya
Education and Experience Required
B-degree in (Business studies, Commerce) (NQF level no.)
Certificate of Proficiency at NQF4
(8 -10 ) years (Technical/Managerial) experience
3-5 years’ experience with Life and personal lines insurance portfolios
Exposure to the insurance underwriting environment
Bank Assurance experience
Experience in dealing with brokers and Corporate clients
