EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Position: Tea maker & Plant Technician
A tea company operating in Rwanda with a small core team, is seeking to recruit Two (2) Tea Makers and one (1) Factory Chief Maintenance officer for immediate placement to facilitate oversight of and improvements in its factory operational activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The Tea Maker is responsible for management of production – Ensuring optimum utilisation of resources and creation of enabling environment with view to achieving quality product and service, safety and productions goals with the highest manufacturing standards.

Reporting to the Factory Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:-

• Monitoring the tea processing level against set targets
• Reviewing and developing production methods and technique in the factory to ensure proper utilization of available resources
• Liaising with other section in the unit in planning,resource utilization and efficiency
• Cross functional team working with field management and quality assurance
• Ensuring that products meet set quality standards and specifications
• The achievement of improved tea quality vs industry benchmarks
• Coordinating and controlling production activities in the production section
• Ensuring observation and compliance with environmental, health and safety measures and regulations
• Participating in preparation of budget and ensuring adherence to approved levels
• Participating in development of production strategic plans
• Ensuring maintenance of high standards of hygiene in the production unit
• Supervising, appraising staff and identifying their development and training needs
• Participating in reviewing and developing factory policies, procedures and strategies
• Preparing timely and accurate reports and distributing to appropriate users
• Conducting process capability study as and when required
• Training employees on production methods, process standards and specifications
• Evaluating and implementing cost reduction programmes in the factory
• Performing any other duty as may be assigned from time to time
The Factory Chief Maintenance Officer is responsible for oversight of all plant maintenance. Ensure reliability and availability of plant equipment and other facilities to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, quality of production and safety targets.
Reporting to the Factory Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:-
• Maintaining a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule for the entire factory unit and its fleet of vehicles
• Allocating duties and supervising both machinery and fleet maintenance teams
• Evaluating and implementing cost reduction programme in the units
• Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
• Participating in continuous improvement programmes
• Diagnosing faults and ensuring timely repairs of the factory machinery equipment and its fleet of vehicles
• Requisitioning and verifying of quality spares ordered both for machinery and fleet maintenance;
• Writing technical reports on plant and fleet maintenance
• Timely scheduling of statutory maintenance and repairs of both steam boilers and diesel generators, and all company vehicles
• Observing and complying with environmental, health and safety measures and regulations
• Installation and commissioning of new machinery

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills & experience:
Tea Maker
• Graduate in Food Science, Production Technology, Agricultural, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science Chemistry
• At least four (4) years progressive work experience in related areas
• Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda
• Computer literate

Factory Chief Maintenance Officer
• Degree in Engineering
• Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Plant Option) from a recognized Institutions
• A level (sciences)
• At least five (5) years’ experience gained in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the tea industry
• Computer literacy

The company’s principle areas of operations are tea processing and management of tea plantations in its catchment areas. The company is seeking to recruit a Quality Assurance Officer for immediate recruitment.
• Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent will be fully responsible for the measurement and reporting of the quality of green leaf and made tea through the entire company supply chain i.e. from plucking in the field, reception in factory, manufacture and delivery to the customer. He/she will ensure that field operations meet the required agronomic standards as defined in the organization’s agricultural manual and the quality of finished product achieves the targeted standard.

General Purpose
Responsible for ensuring a product or service meets the established standards of quality including reliability, usability, food safety and performance.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
• Implement quality assurance policies and procedures
• Interpret and implement quality assurance standards
• Ensure raw material quality as per EATI raw material/tea quality specifications
• Management of the company tea tasting department
• Evaluate adequacy of quality assurance standards
• Devise sampling procedures and directions for recording and reporting quality data
• Prepare quality reports on a daily basis for Senior Management
• Review the implementation and efficiency of quality, inspection systems and requisite feedback loops
• Plan, conduct and monitor testing and inspection of materials and products to ensure finished product quality
• Document internal audits and other quality assurance activities
• Investigate customer complaints and non-conformance issues
• Collect and compile statistical quality data
• Analyse data to identify areas for improvement in the quality system
• Develop, recommend and monitor corrective and preventive actions
• Prepare reports to communicate outcomes of quality activities
• Identify training needs and organize training interventions to meet quality standards
• Coordinate and support on-site audits conducted by external providers
• Evaluate audit findings and implement appropriate corrective actions
• Monitor risk management activities
• Responsible for document management systems
• Assure ongoing compliance with quality and industry regulatory requirements

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Knowledge of HACCP
• Experience with implementation of corrective action programs of quality measures in tea industry
• Tea product or industry-specific experience
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases
• Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies of QA
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements
• Certifications an advantage including Quality Auditor, Quality Improvement Associate, Quality Inspection, Auditing and Testing experience
