Learning and Development Manager – East Africa

Reporting to: Senior Manager; Training

Department: Learning and Development
Role Summary / Purpose: Responsible for implementation of the Company’s Learning & Development Training plan in East Africa, aligned to business priorities with a strong focus on Manager Coaching and relevant skills.
Key Performance Areas
• Learning and Development Strategy: Provide leadership to define and execute the organization’s training strategy aligned to business priorities; implement training projects and activities in close collaboration with cross-functional teams
• Use consulting skills and build relationships to establish sponsorship and ownership for training agenda
• Collaborate and work with the team to share ideas, best practices & maximise budgets
• Communicate effectively utilizing both written and in person skills
• Approve, distribute, and archive intellectual capital ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements
• Understanding adult learning principles and how to design and develop engaging informal and formal learning solutions using a variety of methods and learning technologies
• Establish learning objectives that are SMART an aligned to business and learner needs
• Create engaging and efficient learning solutions aligned to adult learning principles and learning and development strategies
• Create solutions that are engaging and cost effective using both live and virtual learning methods to deliver positive organizational impact
• Design solutions considering 3 areas of delivery:
1. Pre- training
2. Training
3. Post- Training
• Creating a results-based learning and development solution that fully embeds the needed performance or knowledge improvements
• Deliver informal and formal learning solutions in a manner that is both engaging and effective
• Manage the learning environment and prepare for training delivery
• Demonstrate effective facilitation and presentation techniques that engage learners, crate a positive learning environment and build learner motivation
• Establish credibility as an instructor and effectively manage challenging behaviour and situations
• Evaluate learning solution throughout delivery, adapting the program to ensure learning outcomes are met
• Evaluate performance and training impact
• Apply a systematic approach to evaluate gaps in performance and impact of training
• Use a consulting approach to uncover the gaps that require training and development
• Effectively evaluate the impact of training solutions delivered
• Coaching of MSRs and FLSMs: In-field & Classroom
• Product training: In-field & classroom
• Skills training: In-field & classroom
Qualification and Skills
• Relevant Tertiary Science Qualification e.g B.Sc/B.Pharm/B.Sc HR/ or any other relevant Science Degree.
• Minimum of 6-7 years working experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Of these, 3 years should be at middle management, with managerial responsibilities
• A passion for own and people development with the ability to deliver innovative, practical training solutions and facilitation
• The ability to travel is a key requirement as the role will support East Africa – at least 1 to 2 weeks away, per month will be the minimum requirement
• Excellent Interpersonal skills
• Effective facilitation and presentation skills
• Proven Coaching skills
• Proven competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Previous training experience preferable
