Membership and Marketing Internship at East African Wild Life Society

Reports to: Head of Communications, Fundraising and Advocacy

Major Functions

Ensure that East African Wild Life Society grows its membership, marketing the organization’s merchandise, Swara Magazine Advertisement space and Swara subscription.

Major Duties and Responsibilities for the Marketing Internship

  • Assists in the implementation of the EAWLS Communications Strategy;
  • Assist in the implementation of the membership recruitment and retention strategy
  • Promotes and markets the EAWLS brand to improve its image and attract supporters;
  • Assists in developing partnerships and structures in USA, UK and China while reaching out to new membership segments such as the rest of Africa and other Asian countries;
  • Assists in carrying out data entry in the membership database as well as in the Swara online platform;
  • Assists in preparing membership trends and income reports;
  • Assists in handling members correspondences and providing services to members;
  • Attends to walk-in clients and members;
  • Assists in marketing Swara to readers through the subscription model
  • Assists in organising EAWLS events (such as corporate breakfast, lectures and talks);
  • Assists in Swara packaging and dispatch.
  • Assist in marketing advertisement space in Swara
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Head of Communications, Fundraising and Development.

Qualifications for the Marketing Internship

  • University degree in Marketing, Public Relation, or other related fields;
  • Excellent business skills (experience in development of marketing strategies will be an added advantage);
  • Hands-on event organizing skills (planning and budgeting)
  • An understanding of, and vocational interest in, environmental conservation, international development, NGO sector and other related fields would be preferred;
  • Excellent oral and written English and Kiswahili with knowledge of other languages an asset

Working Relationships

Internal – interacts with the EAWLS Executive Director, Heads of Department, Membership Officer, and staff on a daily basis, and as required works closely with the Communications, Fundraising and Swara teams.

External – Interacts with government bodies and institutions, businesses, non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, the media, donors, specialists / consultants, and other stakeholders, in collaboration with the Head of Communications and Development.

This job description covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the sort of tasks that are anticipated proactively from staff.

The internship will run for 3 months and the position attracts no monetary renumeration.
