Finance Officer Job at NTSA

REF: NTSA/02/2017/24.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Officer, the job holder will be responsible for compiling and updating the general ledger information and financial transactions to ensure accurate and timely maintenance of accounting records in accordance with prescribed financial policies, accounting standards and other requirements.

Duties for the Finance Officer Job

  • Prepare the annual tax deductions returns and furnish staff and the Board as appropriate;
  • Maintain invoices and LPO/LSO file and make the necessary follow-up to ensure that items are cleared promptly;
  • Facilitate timely payments to suppliers, staff and the Board;
  • Maintain and regularly update the Fixed Assets Register, including computation of monthly depreciation and posting the same to the General Ledger;
  • Post transactions in the general ledger, cash book and other subsidiary ledgers;
  • Monitor monthly revenues and expenses and where applicable ensure that they are accrued or posted in the correct accounting period;
  • Prepare accounts reconciliations and follow up on the outstanding items;
  • Confirm the accuracy and completeness of accounts receivables (invoicing, receipting, banking and reconciliations) and reporting on the same as appropriate;
  • Maintain staff imprest and advances ledgers;
  • Issuance of inspection licenses, monitoring and reconciling revenue records;
  • Updating the cash book, creditors’ subsidiary accounts, vote book & the fixed asset register;
  • Bank Reconciliation and reconciling the posted transactions in the General Ledger to the subsidiary accounts;
  • Timely processing of approved payment requests;
  • Prepare draft financial reports and statements in conformance to the applicable International Financial
  • Reporting Standards and Generally Accepted Accounting standards and Principles;
  • Initiate the opening of new ledger accounts as necessary to more accurately capture detailed accounting information;
  • Track the utilization of capital and operational expenditure against the approved budget and report on the same;
  • Monitor and report variances on actual expenditure and budget;
  • Facilitate provision of information necessary for preparation of budget estimate, financial statements and various financial reports; and
  • Facilitate provision of schedules for internal and external audits and ensure effective implementation of audit recommendations.

Finance Officer Job Qualifications

To be appointed to this role, the successful candidate must possess the following key requirements;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting or Business related field;
  • Full professional qualification like CPA-K, ACCA or equivalent;
  • Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK);
  • Specialist knowledge in Accounts management;
  • Proficiency in ICT;
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as Finance and Accounting officer III or in a comparable and relevant position gained from reputable organizations;
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial systems;
  • Diverse experience in finance and accounts management;
