Reporting to the OMEM CST Head of Legal, Operational Risk and Compliance and OMEM Chief Risk Officer or his/her designate. The incumbent will be responsible for Facilitating the execution, monitoring and reporting on the progress of requests and instructions issued by the OMEM Group Risk and the OMEM Chief Risk Officer or his designate and initiates appropriate corrective action as may be required
§ Relevant degree in Business with strong business development and growth within related industries.
§ A minimum of five years’ experience in an Operations or back office environment, ideally in a line role (risk, product control, operations) across a broad set of financial services, including operational risk management in an institutional business environment.
§ Excellent working knowledge of operational risk management principles and practices:
o Risk identification methods/tools – questionnaire, workshops, interviews
o Risk analysis – aggregation, concentrations, root cause
o Risk assessment – Inherent/ Residual basis; Impact Types; Risk likelihood
o Control concepts and documentation – objectives, types, accountability, resource, process,
o Risk reporting – data analysis, key messages
o Identification of connected events
o Indicators and Metrics programme experience
o Risk appetite framework
§ Experience at working in complex organisational environments, with matrix structures across multiple lines of businesses and geographies.
§ Highly motivated and flexible, with a proven ability to deliver in a challenging and dynamic environment and display initiative with a demonstrated ability to manage time and priorities.
§ Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills, communication skills with the ability to persuade, influence and build rapport with others and to effectively impart specialist knowledge and build capability in others.

§ Ability to travel extensively across the African continent.

§ Mature the CST Africa Operations risk management practices applied across all financial services businesses – Life and savings, General insurance, Investments, Asset management, Banking, Pensions and Health, by taking responsibility together with first line management to ensure the effective management of risks.
§ Assist, as required, in managing country operational risks and using knowledge of industry to put in place a good control culture.
§ Support the OMA Head of Risk and CST Africa Operations Executive in contributing to the development of an Operational Risk Management Framework which will be applied across Old Mutual Africa
§ Work with the business to undertake the development of appropriate controls, test effectiveness of the controls, monitor and report on regular basis on the maturity of the controls.
§ Present findings to the Risk Owner and the Control Operator and report results to the OMA Management Risk Committee (MRC) and follow-up proactively on recommendations and action points.
§ Oversee operational risk incident investigations. Ensure incidents are logged and documented on the incident register and monitor resolution, challenge as appropriate.
§ Contribute to OMA RMRC packs, sourcing data, writing analysis, oversee and monitor risk reporting across the various African businesses.
§ Support OMA Head of Risk to enhance/define the Risk and Control Assessment process, managing any changes to Key Controls, updating testing plan accordingly.
§ Assist with training and awareness to embed the Operational Risk Management Framework across various markets. This will include sharing lessons learnt from country experiences.
§ Assist, review, challenge and provide quality assurance for the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process in the region partnering with ORM regionally and centrally.
§ Partner with ORM regionally and OMA/OMEM to ensure consistent deployment and implementation of the evolving operational risk framework and policies.
§ Input into and participation with change initiatives, remediation projects, issue resolution, and audit management throughout the various markets within OMA in an operational risk capacity.
§ Attendance of and active engagement in standing business partnership and control meetings focusing on identification of emerging and existing risks, escalation, mitigation and remediation to ensuring an environment of continuously improving operational risk management and reduction.
§ Provides risk management advice and inputs to their executive team and attends key strategic and operational meetings of that executive team, thereby ensuring that they have appropriate knowledge and insight into the key risks of the business.
§ Provides training, coaching, mentoring and support to the 1st line of defense risk owners, controls owners, risk indicator owners, management action owners and risk coordinators, so they are enabled to fulfil their risk management responsibilities.
