JOB PURPOSE: A new international network is being established with a headquarters in Nairobi. The network will conduct harmonized research to improve outcomes in sick undernourished children in Africa and Asia.The main purpose of the job is to provide co-ordination, administrative and management leadership and support to assist the project leaders to implement the network and several research projects on under-nutrition and infection that are linked to it in order to achieve their goals and objectives, and to optimize the integrated output of these projects.
This position reports to the Network Director Prof. Jay Berkley
The post holder will be responsible for project operational budgets and monitoring of international study site budgets and project assets.
• Be responsible for developing and maintaining a calendar of activities in consultation with the Network Director and senior team members
• Manage and coordinate scientific and operational activities internally and externally, including organizing meetings in Kenya and overseas for the Network, and linked projects
• Oversee operations to ensure operational efficiency, quality, and cost-effective management of resources by establishing and maintaining appropriate internal systems and procedures in line with the Programme’s policies and procedures.
• Track expenditures on the Network and related grants in consultation with the Finance Offices in Nairobi, Kilifi and Oxford, as well as with project sites in other countries
• Develop and maintain study documentation, governance documents, contracts and inventory of assets at international sites for the Network and for projects linked to it
• Ensure effective and proactive communication across the teams on performance, operational policies, procedures and services
• Represent the Network Director and research group at the Nairobi Unit Operations meeting, Procurement, Data Governance, Security and other relevant committees and meetings within the research Programme
• To liaise with other departments within the research Programme to ensure smooth running of the projects
• Contributing to collaborative decisions that affect the projects
• Ensure compliance with the staff appraisal process
• Maintaining systems for continuous monitoring and provision of regular feedback through regular meetings with internal teams
• Undertake other duties as assigned by the Network Director
Essential Qualifications:
• A Degree in Health Policy, Public Policy, Public Health, Epidemiology or a related field.
• At least 8 years of working experience
• Either Masters in Business Administration or Project Management from a recognized institution with 3 years’ experience in the management of large science or technical projects or more than 5 years’ experience in experience in the management of large science or technical projects
• Demonstrable experience in writing reports in English
• Demonstrable experience in organizing large meetings or networks
• Computer literacy with proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft applications

The post holder will be required to be available to work flexibly, out of hours as necessary
