Brief Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager-Purchasing, the successful candidate will effectively manage the purchasing cycle, ensuring that procurement policies and procedures are complied with, negotiating and managing supplier contracts and end-to-end tendering process as well as ensuring that in all circumstances Safaricom secures the best service/product for the best economical price within Facilities Management Categories

Detailed Description

  • Define, implement and manage the category sourcing strategies and align it to the overall Business Strategy;
  • Develop and maintain category sourcing framework that supports procurement plans for the organization.
  • Identify and analyze initiatives that support delivery of projected savings (jointly with user departments and suppliers);
  • Provide business support and value delivery through fulfillment of immediate business requirements;
  • Enhance internal customer self-service and build internal customer relationships;
  • Manage contracted vendor relationships through a structured framework;
  • Drive compliance and supply side risk management through audits, process/procedure reengineering, analysis/ reviews and adherence to regulatory requirements;
  • Manage Business continuity for strategic supplies through self-assessment and audits;
  • Negotiate and close sourcing agreements /contracts with suppliers in line with total cost of ownership approach;
  • Maintain category supply market analysis, intelligence and related trends to support category strategies;
  • Maintain item catalogues/pricelists /source lists within the ERP system;
  • Monitor the performance of suppliers and take corrective actions where necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Business or similar qualification;
  • Post Graduate Diploma Qualification in Supply Chain Management (CIPS or its equivalent);
  • At least 5 years’ experience in procurement all with responsibility for strategic Sourcing including supply market analysis, tender document preparation, tender evaluation, contract negotiation and supplier performance management in an environment leveraging ERP capabilities for procurement-related functions and processes.
  • Excellent understanding of category sourcing strategy development and implementation;
  • Strong negotiation skills;
  • Good understanding of commercial models
  • Team player with excellent influencing skills;
  • High level of Initiative and self-drive;
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • Very strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain good relationship with all stake holders
  • Experience in Construction/Facilities Management buying will be an added advantage
