JOB PURPOSE:To manage a team of people to produce both internal management reports/grant donor reports & other financial accounting information. A key focus of the role is ensuring timely, accurate and complete recording, reporting of financial transactions according to accounting best practice & donor reporting guidelines.

REPORTING TO:Head of Finance

• Assist with the production of budgetary information of new awards
• Reporting accurately actual to budget & investigate
• Discuss budget variances with both grant PI & the COO

Staffs operating at this grade range take full responsibility for planning their work & the work of their team ensuring completion per the monthly accounting timetable, & grant reporting dates
They are required to adapt and suggest improvements to procedures, and contribute to decisions which impact the Programme.
They can manage a team of people and deal with changing priorities
They can communicate all financial matters effectively to PIs and Senior Management
They can multi task & manage a number of priorities simultaneously.
This member of staff will show leadership to more junior members of the team and set an example in behaviour.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: state the main duties for the job
• In charge of a team of staff who complete both donor & management reports – ensuring the team complete work according to the monthly accounting timetable and SOPS
• Responsibility for reporting performance issues to Head of Finance, and initiating solutions to improve performance
• Mentor and coach staff to improve standard of work
• Ensuring that standard accounting procedures are followed in preparing the financial reports & that any SOPS in place are followed
• Responsible for ensuring that all transactions are properly authorized, documented, and ensuring that accounting transactions are posted to the correct ledgers/account codes
• Responsibility for ensuring that key balance sheet reconciliations are prepared monthly to be reviewed by the Head of Finance
• Ensuring that all new grants are allocated logical names and codes in the accounting system
• Ensuring that any cash count checks are performed correctly and any differences followed up, recorded and reported to Senior Management
• Responsibility for producing Grant Reports for Donors & PIs according to the donor rules, and timescales and ensuring these go out in accordance with deadlines, and with all the correct supplementary backing information required
• Responsibility for requesting funds on time and producing cash flow statements for the Programme, checking accuracy of these the following month
• Meeting with PIs or Dept Heads to discuss management /grant reports, taking follow up action as agreed
• Responsibility for production of bank reconciliation by the 10th of each month, and following up outstanding issues
• Responsibility for Treasury matters: negotiating rates, ensuring bank schedule is up to date, mandates are completed etc
• Analyse income & costs for specific queries, and dealing with variance analysis on core and other grants
• Assist PIs and COO in the preparation of budgets
• Cover the role of other Senior Accountants as required
• Deputize for Head of Finance as required
• Act as Finance Lead for the worksite outside of the HQ

• Full professional accounting qualifications – CPA (K) or ACCA or equivalent
• A degree in accounting or Finance
• At least 5 years of post-qualification experience
• In-depth knowledge and experience in computerised accounting systems
• Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Applications
