This position is located in UNEP, Corporate Services Division, Strategic Donor Partnerships and Global Funds Coordination Section in Nairobi. Under the supervision of the head of the section in the coordination of UNEP’s engagement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the incumbent is responsible for:

Legal Officer Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct extensive legal research and analysis and prepare studies, comparative studies, briefs, reports and correspondence.
  • Undertake basic or extensive review of legal documents, instruments, or other material; identify important issues, similarities, and inconsistencies, etc.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of drafts of background papers, studies, reports, legislative texts and commentaries on those texts, teaching materials in the field of international trade law and private international law, etc.
  • Support the process of revisions and approvals for GCF-funded projects.
  • Follow up on emerging issues / challenges impacting the implementation of approved projects and Readiness activities for the GCF.
  • Monitor (in coordination with the UNEP Sub-Programme Coordinator for Climate Change) decisions of the
  • Green Climate Fund Board which would impact the implementation of approved projects or the requests for approval of new projects to the GCF.
  • Prepare or assist with the preparation of international trade law seminars and symposia, lecture on various legal issues at such events.

Qualifications for the Legal Officer Job

Associate Programme Management Job Responsibilities

Project Planning and Execution

  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of all activities specified in the UNEP/GEF project entitled “Implementation of the Strategic Action Programme for the protection of the Western Indian
  • Ocean from land-based sources and activities (WIO-SAP)” Project Document and ensure timely completion, review of relevant documents and reports, identification of problems and issues to be addressed and proposing corrective actions; liaising with relevant parties and identifying and tracking follow-up.
  • Carry out basic research on selected aspects of project, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. resulting from project activities
  • Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, handling logistics, preparation of background documents and presentations, etc. for regional task teams and working groups.

Information Systems Officer Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and testing of reports and management dashboards as identified and prioritized in the requirements gathering process.
  • Participate in the development of Hana reporting views in coordination with the UN ERP (Umoja) reporting teams to facilitate the delivery of cross functional reports and dashboards.
  • Build procedures to extract, transform and load non-Umoja data where required to enrich data retrieved from the existing Umoja Business Intelligence (BI) system.
  • Complete adhoc requests as received and prioritized by the Business Analytics and Reporting Unit (BARU).
  • Effectively coordinate the collection of functional reporting requirements for identified priority areas.
  • Participate in the coordination between clients and Umoja BI to identify existing reporting assets and resolve any issues therein.
  • Serve as a coordinator in the development and testing of reports and dashboards through the existing power users and subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Keep abreast with any new Umoja BI technologies and processes so as to act as the go-to person for current and updated information related to Umoja BI.
  • Assess Business Intelligence (BI) training needs; identify, design and coordinate the delivery of BI training programs to staff at all levels.

Qualifications for the Information Systems Officer Job

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related area.
  • A first-level university in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Business Intelligence professional certifications are highly desirable.
  • Prince 2 Certification is an added advantage.

Procurement Job Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and recommendation to the Chief of Service and the Director of Division, on conceptual strategy development and management of the implementation of overall procurement strategies and intra and inter-divisional/departmental procurement policies and procedures.
  • Plan and oversee the management of procurement activities undertaken by the Section. Ensure that substantive work programme and programmed activities are carried out in a timely fashion. Coordinate diverse procurement projects in the Section, and in liaison with Offices away from Headquarters and other organizations of the United Nations System as appropriate.

Division Financial Management:
