As the United Nations focal point on human settlements, UNHabitat will lead advocacy efforts to raise awareness of sustainable urbanization issues; provide evidencebased policy advice; build capacities; develop tools, norms and standards based on best practices; work on demonstration projects and provide assistance to national Governments, local authorities and other public institutions responsible for urban issues.

The Donor Relations and Income Management Service is responsible for enhancing resources for sustainable urbanization programmes in UNHabitat. One of the objectives of the service is to increase the level of resources from governments, local authorities, private Sector, foundations, and other donors. The vacancy is located in the Donor Relations & Income Management Unit under Management and Operations Division.

The Donor Relations and Income Management internship is for 6 months.

The Internship is UNPAID and fulltime.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Donor Market Researcher Internship Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Donor Relations and Income Management, the intern will:

  • Compile database of donors contribute to sustainable urbanization programmes and gather details on their budget cycles, proposal cycles as well as their current target themes, priorities and countries
  • Compile successful sample proposals for each donor to guide the writing of proposals
  • Upload the donor briefs and information into UNHabitat Donor Information System
  • Monitor opportunities coming up on DEVEX database and send relevant proposals to managers dealing with the identified themes, countries.
  • Identify current donor trends and themes that are trending, so that the agency’s proposals can be aligned to current global and regional needs.
  • Carry out research on multistakeholder global funds in the field of sustainable urbanization, e.g. green climate fund, with a view to UNHabitat gaining accreditation to such funds.
  • Carry out research on digital fundraising and other innovative fundraising methods, including new ideas, best practices and learning and upload these on UNHabitat’s Intranet
  • Assist with developing digital fundraising activities to leverage emergency fundraising opportunities.

Education for Donor Market Researcher Job

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a oneyear period of graduation.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred area of study:

  • Currently enrolled in a recognized university pursuing a degree/Masters in Marketing or research, ICT

Work Experience

  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable
