University of Queensland Academic Scholarships in Australia, 2017

The University of Queensland is offering scholarships for Australian and international students who are completing or have completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia. These scholarships encourage and support outstanding students who aspire to undertake a program of study for a coursework degree in 2017.

UQ’s Academic Scholarship program aims to reward the achievements of outstanding school leavers and gap year students.

Ranked in the world’s top 50, the University of Queensland is one of Australia’s leading research and teaching institutions. UQ’s world-class campuses facilitate the best teaching practices and optimal learning experiences.

Applicants must at least 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent test. Some programs have higher English proficiency requirements.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue undergraduate and any subsequent postgraduate coursework study at the University of Queensland.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in all subjects offered by the university.

Scholarship Award:

  • UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships: The Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships is valued at $12,000 a year payable for up to 5 years, conditional on students meeting ongoing eligibility as specified in the scholarship rules.
  • UQ Excellence Scholarships: The UQ Excellence Scholarships is valued at $6,000 a year payable for up to 4 years, conditional on students meeting ongoing eligibility as specified in the scholarship rules.
  • UQ Merit Scholarships: The UQ Merit Scholarships is valued at $6,000 for the first year of study only, conditional on students meeting ongoing eligibility as specified in the scholarship rules.

Scholarship can be taken in Australia

Eligibility: Academic scholarships are open to Year 12 and gap year students who:

  • Are Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holders; or
  • Are Australian Permanent Residents, New Zealand citizens, or international student who is completing or has completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia; and
  • Have not completed any previous tertiary study other than that undertaken as part of Year 11-12 studies (eg. Enhanced Studies Program); and
  • Have applied for a tertiary place through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC); and
  • Are intending to enroll as a full-time student in an undergraduate program at the University of Queensland in 2016 (or 2017 if they are deferring their tertiary place); and
  • Have UQ listed as their 1st or 2nd QTAC preference.

Nationality: Australian Permanent Residents, New Zealand citizens, or international students who are completing or have completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: The Academic Scholarships available for award are:

UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants achieving at the very top of the OP1 band or equivalent who aspire to undertake a program of study for a coursework degree at the University of Queensland.

UQ Excellence Scholarships are awarded to OP 1 applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic, leadership and/or community service achievements during their senior secondary studies who aspire to study at the University of Queensland

UQ Merit Scholarships are awarded to high academic achievers across a range of study areas who demonstrate significant leadership and/or community services who are commencing the first year of a bachelor’s degree at the University of Queensland.

Test Requirement: No

How to Apply: Applicants only need to complete and submit one application form to be considered for the three different types of Academic Scholarships on offer. Before applicants apply, they will need to apply to QTAC to receive their reference number. Their QTAC number is the reference number which they receive after they have lodged their QTAC application online. Their QTAC number will begin with a ’17’ (or a ’16’ if they are a gap year student who applied through QTAC in 2016).
