Role overview
You will join a committed and innovative team of early-years education volunteer advisors, led by an international consultant, which is making an important contribution to improving the quality of early-years education in Rwanda. As part of a VSO project, implemented in partnership with UNICEF, you will refer to your understanding and experience of a play-centred, thematic, creative and inclusive approach to early-years education to support the team in developing materials to train teachers, Head Teachers and parents. In beautiful Nyaruguru district you will work alongside a Rwandan volunteer in training and coaching in a small number of schools at which early-years student teachers from Cyahinda Teacher Training College frequently observe and practice teaching. As such, you will make an important contribution to improving the quality of the early-years course and will link up regularly with the international volunteer working at the college.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
It’s essential that you hold at least a Bachelor degree focused on Early-Years Education (education for children aged 4-6 years old). You will also have at least 3 years’ experience in teaching early-years – using a thematic, play-centred and inclusive approach. Ideally you can prove experience in sharing learning with other teachers or student teachers through coaching and/or training. You will have good computer skills and demonstrate confidence in using the internet in order to use VSO Rwanda’s online reporting system

For this job you will need to travel to local schools. Your form of transport will probably be by motocycle – riding as a passenger. Roads can be rough, particularly during and after rain. For this reasons, a certain level of physical fitness and ability to cope with these conditions is necessary.
You need – to be willing to share accommodation with other volunteers.
