The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the Procurement Unit of the WFP Somalia Office. The position will be based at the WFP Somalia- Liaison Office in Nairobi Kenya. The Internship will be for an initial period of 6 months starting in September 2016.

Procurement Internship Description

  • Under the direct guidance of Procurement Associate and overall supervision of the Head of Procurement unit, the selected candidate will be assisting the Procurement Unit with the following key duties:

Procurement Internship Duties

  • Collaborate with technical units based both in Somalia and Nairobi to enhance the unit capacity on tracking the information related to CBT interventions;
  • Assist in managing the data related to retailers;
  • Collect lessons learnt, best practices and innovations in retailers’ selection and management process
  • Assist in contracting Somalia based retailers under CBT interventions;
  • Assist in conducting price analysis of food commodities;
  • Assist in managing the data related to retailers;
  • Retail sectors supply chain assessment to understand and address the bottleneck, so the proposed mitigation measures reduce prices at shelf and passed to beneficiaries.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Essential Requirements for Procurement Internship

  • Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 12 months with Bachelor’s degree in one of the fields of Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Procurement.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Proficiency in English language
  • Open to Kenyan Nationals only

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Good analytical skills, resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgement, tact;
  • Capacity to produce high quality products when working under pressure and with competing deadlines;
  • Ability to adjust own communication style to different internal and external audiences and purposes;
  • Ability to work in a team and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • High capacity for organization and coordination, as well as an ability to work with a high degree of independence in a team environment;

Terms and Conditions

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$700 per month depending on the duty station of assignment, (the current rate for Nairobi is about $600).
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from WFP internship location, necessary visas and costs related.
